The election results

As soon as the polling stations are closed and the votes cast have been counted, the results of the European elections will be published live on the European Parliament website.

The 720 MEPs who make up the European Parliament will then assemble for their constituent session. This is scheduled to take place on 16 July 2024. The MPs not only elect a new President, they also form new parliamentary groups, of which there are currently seven.

Germany has the largest number of MEPs

As was the case after the last election in 2019, 96 seats will again be allocated to members from Germany this year. This means that the majority of MEPs in the European Parliament are from Germany. Next comes France with 81, Italy with 76 and Spain with 61 MPs.

The work of the European Parliament

The work of the newly elected Parliament will include electing the President and the members of the European Commission, and also deciding on the use of funds from the EU budget. In addition to this, the European Parliament ensures the proper functioning of other EU institutions, as well as developing and adopting new laws for the people of the EU.
