Press briefing with Federal Chancellor Merz at the E5 meeting “We are committed to a strong NATO

Federal Chancellor Merz met with the heads of state and government of the E5 countries (European Group of Five (Germany, France, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom) at the Federal Chancellery. The meeting focused on preparations for the NATO summit in Ankara, support for Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.

The solidarity surcharge (Solidaritätszuschlag) is a surcharge on income tax and corporation tax, introduced to meet the costs of German unification. The surcharge is currently 5.5 percent.
