Among other things, less office space is to be heated, while buildings, monuments and advertising installations are no longer to be illuminated at certain times.

By the end of the decade, 80 percent of German electricity is to be produced from renewable sources. "That’s why what is being created here is a vital contribution to the future of our country,” said the Federal Chancellor in Cuxhaven during a visit to a production facility belonging to wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa.

At the production facility, Scholz said he was “very impressed with this great technological innovation”. “The future of Germany will be an industrial future – but with a difference: good for the environment, and based on inspiring technology.”

The Chancellor’s journey continued to Magdeburg where he visited the STIMULATE research campus at Otto von Guericke University to find out about the progress being made in research there. STIMULATE is an institution based on a private-public partnership that seeks ways of tackling disease in an ageing society.

STIMULATE has set itself the goal of developing new patient-friendly, high-quality and specifically needed diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for tackling diseases that are highly relevant to society.
