In April 2009 NATO will be
celebrating the 60th anniversary of its foundation. The festivities
on the German side will take place in Baden-Baden and Kehl, those
on the French side in Strasbourg.
The Summit will focus on the 60th
anniversary. The member states will be looking back on the
alliance's development and success stories. At the same time,
though, the Summit will also be looking at NATO's
future.
The Summit will launch a process to design a new strategic
concept. Talks will also cover the important issue of the
relationship between the EU and NATO.
The 26 existing member states will be welcoming Albania and
Croatia as new members. For the first time, the newly elected US
president Barack Obama will also be taking part.
