The recurrent theme of the Chancellor's trip is cooperation on migration policy. The three countries are key within the framework of the EU's migration partnerships.
This was the first time a German Chancellor had visited the West African state.
Chancellor Angela Merkel promised the President that Germany would continue to support his country in the fight against drug smuggling and human trafficking.
Germany would like to help stabilise Mali, declared Angela Merkel.
During a visit she thanked the German troops stationed in Mali as part of the UN's MINUSMA peace mission.

The President of the Republic of the Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou (at right), welcomed the Chancellor at the airport.
Niger is one of the major transit countries for migrants from other parts of Africa.
A visit to a transit centre for migrants run by the International Organization for Migration
Chancellor Angela Merkel is welcomed with a song when she visits a primary school.
The school receives financial support from Germany.
In Niger too Chancellor Angela Merkel thanked the Bundeswehr soldiers serving at the MINUSMA air transport base.
On Tuesday, the last day of her African trip, the Chancellor was expected in Ethiopia.
Here too the Chancellor was welcomed with military honours.
