Berlin, 07.09.16: Before the Chancellor spoke on Wednesday during the debate on the 2017 budget, there was a one-minute silence in the German Bundestag to honour the memory of former Federal President Walter Scheel.
The 2017 budget will shape the future and provide answers to the problems of our time - with no new borrowing.

At a state funeral in the Berliner Philharmonie in the afternoon, Germany took its leave of former Federal President Walter Scheel.

... he will remain engraved in the memory of the people of this country," declared Chancellor Angela Merkel. Walter Scheel held the office of Federal President from 1974 to 1979.
Berlin, 08.09.16: At the official ceremony to mark the centenary of the German Association of District Authorities, the Chancellor thanked municipalities, towns and rural districts for their "exceptional engagement" in taking in refugees.
Berlin, 09.09.16: This month's informal meeting of EU heads of state and government in Bratislava was the reason for Romanian President Klaus Iohannis' visit to the Federal Chancellery.
With the Romanian President, the Chancellor discussed the summit to be held on 16 September with Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Belgium's Prime Minister Charles Michel.
Federal President Joachim Gauck again hosted a party to thank citizens for their commitment. Chancellor Angela Merkel was also invited.
