Biarritz, 24 August 2019: French President Emmanuel Macron was the host of this year's G7 summit.
An EU coordination meeting ahead of the summit was attended by Chancellor Angela Merkel and the French, British and Italian leaders as well as Donald Tusk, President of the European Council.
On the sidelines of the summit the Chancellor spoke with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
At the start of the three-day summit, the heads of state and government met for an informal dinner to discuss foreign and security policy.
Biarritz, 25 August 2019: On Sunday, participants met for the first working session.
They discussed the disastrous forest fires in South America. Brazil is particularly badly affected, with the worst fires for years.
The Chancellor also met with Chile's President Sebastian Piñera, to discuss the situation in Amazonia.
On Sunday afternoon the G7 countries met with the leaders of African states for consultations.
Specifically, they looked at development and promotion options for the Sahel region.

The third and last day of the summit
On the sidelines of the summit Angela Merkel met for talks with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
Auch mit US-Präsident Donald Trump kommt sie zu einem bilateralen Gespräch zusammen. Themen sind die Handelsbeziehungen zwischen den EU und USA und die Bemühungen um Stabilität in Libyen, Afghanistan und der Sahelregion.
"Europa mit seinen Vertretern ist hier sehr einheitlich aufgetreten, sowohl Donald Tusk als auch die französische, italienische und deutsche Delegation, inklusive der Kooperation mit Boris Johnson als britischem Premierminister", sagt Merkel zum Abschluss des Gipfels.
