Toulouse, 16 October 2019: Arriving for the Franco-German Council of Ministers. Firstly, the Chancellor and French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Airbus plant.
Toulouse is Airbus' largest base with the administrative headquarters and six production plants. The new A350 is built here.
The company is "perhaps the most important Franco-German cooperative project in recent decades," said the Chancellor before the Council of Ministers met.
Lunch from the galley. Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel dined with young French and Germans inside a model of an A350.
It was the first time the Franco-German Council of Ministers had met since the Treaty of Aachen was signed. With the treaty, Germany and France launched various projects to take cooperation to the next level.
After bilateral meetings of ministers, the entire Council of Ministers came together.
Representatives of Germany and France discussed common guidelines for defence and foreign policy.
The two countries advocated the swift adoption of the European Green Deal to make Europe carbon neutral by 2050.
And to address current global challenges, the two countries aim to see a strong European economy, revolving around a reformed World Trade Organization.
