Scholz travelled to New York to address the UN General Assembly where he urgently called for an increase in international collaboration and involvement to deal with the challenges we are currently facing.
Berlin, 22 September 2022: This Thursday, shortly after returning home, the Federal Chancellor praised the winners of this year's "startsocial" competition for their outstanding social commitment.
At the award ceremony, the Federal Chancellor explained that he had chosen a specific project for the special prize that affected an incredibly large number of people. The “Sprungbrett Pflege" project provides support for refugees on their way to a successful professional life in the healthcare sector.
Berlin, 23 September 2022: The Federal Chancellor first welcomed the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, to talks in Berlin.
The main aim of the talks was to exchange views on the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and its impact on the Republic of Moldova.
The Federal Chancellor spoke in Hanover in the afternoon at a ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of the IG BCE trade union.
Later that day, Federal Chancellor Scholz attended a ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the Hamburg Youth Employment Agency and discussed career prospects with the young people.
Jeddah, 24 September 2022: The Federal Chancellor spent the weekend in the Middle East, where he visited three countries in two days, starting with a meeting with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud.
“It’s clear that talks in the Gulf are not easy, but they are important,” the Federal Chancellor explained, adding that his talks with the Crown Prince in Jeddah were focused on renewable energy, economic collaboration, Russia’s attack on Ukraine, and the importance of human rights.
Later he spoke to women involved in sports, business, and culture about their situation in Saudi Arabia.
From there he travelled to the United Arab Emirates, where he arrived in Abu Dhabi after a three-hour flight. He was met by Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment.
Abu Dhabi, 25 September 2022: The minister accompanied Federal Chancellor Scholz on a visit to a mangrove park on Al Jubail Island the next morning, where recently planted mangroves are making a valuable contribution to the ecological balance and protecting the coast from erosion.
Following his discussion with President Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Federal Chancellor commented: "We have made progress on a whole range of projects here including the production and purchase of diesel and gas."
Federal Chancellor Scholz’ first port of call in Doha was the Mohammed Bin Jassim building, one of four restored historic buildings in the Msheireb district, which sheds light on the history of urban planning and Qatar's architectural heritage.
Scholz met with Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, to discuss issues including "LNG supplies in light of the current energy crisis,” whereby both leaders hope to make further progress in the near future.
