At a meeting in the Federal Chancellery, the President of the Republic of Singapore, Halimah Yacob and Chancellor Angela Merkel have discussed bilateral relations, economic-policy matters and regional development in Asia.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier invited President Halimah Yacob to Germany on a state visit. She will be in Germany until Friday evening. In addition to her meetings with the Federal President and the Chancellor, she will be meeting with representatives of the German business community in Berlin and with Berlin’s Governing Mayor, Michael Müller.

She will meet with Volker Bouffier, state premier of Hesse, in Frankfurt am Main, and will be attending political and business meetings and events.

Important trading partners

Germany and Singapore enjoy excellent bilateral relations. There is a high level of agreement between the two countries on major foreign-policy issues, and each is an important trading partner for the other. In 2018 Singapore’s exports to Germany were worth about 6.6 billion euros, while Germany exported goods worth 7.9 billion euros to Singapore.
