An act committed out of blind hatred would fit the pattern of the terrorist attacks seen in recent weeks and months.

The British authorities have not yet released information on the precise background to the attack. We should not speculate. There are, however, indications that the act was committed out of blind hatred, said federal government spokesperson Steffen Seibert at the government press conference. This is how the attack is currently being treated in the United Kingdom.

Steffen Seibert also conveyed the condolences of the German government to the people who make up the community of the mosque close to which the attack took place. "Our sympathy goes to all our friends in London and in the United Kingdom" who are barely able to find peace at the moment.

Last night in the Finsbury Park district of London, a van drove into pedestrians near a mosque. According to media reports one man has died and several more were injured. The motive behind the attack is still unclear. Anti-terrorist specialists have begun investigations.
