In a message of condolence to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Chancellor extended her deepest sympathy to the families of the victims. She wished the many injured pupils and staff a full and swift recovery.
"Be sure that Germany stands with Pakistan in the fight against the terrorist threat," wrote the Chancellor.
Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier also condemned the terrorist attack in Peshawar in the strongest possible terms. "The appalling cowardice of taking children as hostages and murdering them goes beyond anything that Pakistan, which has been afflicted by terror and violence for years, has experienced to date."
Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed his horror. "We join the people of Pakistan in grieving for the victims of this bloody terrorist attack. Our thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones. We wish the many injured a speedy recovery," he said.
Federal government spokesperson Steffen Seibert offered his sincere condolences to the families of the victims. "I grieve with the many families who have lost their sons and daughters to Taliban terrorists."
According to media reports, more than 100 people, including many children, have been killed in an attack by Taliban fighters from Pakistan on a school in the northwest of the country. The reports say that terrorists wearing army uniforms forced their way into the school and took teachers and pupils hostage.
