"I am deeply shocked by the news and the images reaching us from Paris," said Angela Merkel late on Friday evening. The German government, she said, is in close contact with the French government and has conveyed to it the sympathy and solidarity of the people in Germany. The Chancellor will meet the press on Saturday morning and give a statement about the attacks in Paris.

On Twitter, the Federal Foreign Office declared that he was horrified by the news of the attacks in Paris. The Federal Foreign Minister is quoted as saying, "We stand should to shoulder with France!"
On Friday Paris was shaken by several attacks. Armed attacks and explosions killed well over one hundred people. Bombs exploded close to the Stade de France, where Germany’s national football team was playing France. In the wake of the attacks French President François Hollande declared a state of emergency in Paris.
