The Business7 group (B7) has presented its recommendations to Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz on how the challenges of our time can be met from a business perspective. The B7 Summit took place prior to this in Berlin. Dialogue between policymakers and business is crucial. Pressing issues include pandemic response, climate change, trade and investment policy, digitalisation, employment and global infrastructure initiatives.
International cooperation based on shared values
The B7 emphasise that the fundamental values and the principle of the rule of law within the G7 provide the basis for economic growth, prosperity, sustainability and innovation. Democratic states and their free-market economies must continue to stand shoulder to shoulder in order to overcome current and future crises.
Establish robust supply chains
The B7 continue to advocate rules-based global trade. To make the G7 economies more resilient, governments and business leaders are called on to join forces in strengthening supply chains with reliable partners who share the G7’s values. Comprehensive trade and investment agreements could pave the way here.
Secure the supply of energy, protect the climate
Germany is currently making efforts to put the supply of energy on as broad a base as possible. The B7 support the approach of using diverse sources to ensure a secure supply. This includes the expansion of renewable energy sources. The B7 welcome the initiative of the German G7 Presidency to create an open “Climate Club” to establish international standards for increased climate protection. The instrument of CO2 pricing has a key role to play here.

B7 is one of the seven officially mandated dialogue processes taking place during the German G7 Presidency. The B7 group is composed of the leading G7 business and industry associations. In 2022, the chair of the B7 is held by the Federation of German Industries. In close consultation with the Confederation of German Employers’ Associations and the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce, it coordinates the B7 dialogue process on behalf of the Federal Government.
