About 3 million people work in the tourism sector - 30 per cent of them with an immigrant background. The German government has passed the new Integration Act to make it easier for them to take up employment.
Berlin, 27.09.16: At a meeting in the Federal Chancellery, Angela Merkel and Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak discussed economic relations and social issues.
They also touched on the rule of law, corruption and the situation of religious minorities on the one hand and of Muslims in Malaysia on the other.
At the St. Michael's Day reception of the German Bishops' Conference, the Chancellor talks to the President, Cardinal Reinhard Marx.
In his address to an audience that included many politicians, Cardinal Marx stressed that the Roman Catholic Church intended to provide greater support for refugees.
Later Angela Merkel attended a reception to mark the 70th birthday of Romani Rose, Chairman of the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma.
Berlin, 28.09.16: The Cabinet adopted a bill that will address restriction of competition. It is to take better account of the challenges of the digital era.
Afterwards Chancellor Angela Merkel welcomed the winners of the 51th national young scientist of the year competition, "Jugend forscht" to the Federal Chancellery .
The Chancellor said that the discoveries of these young scientists could determine "how we live tomorrow". Many of their ideas will be incorporated in new products or procedures.
The special prize for the most original entry went to Tassilo Schwarz this year, for his drone defence system. The 17-year-old had the chance to present it himself.
In the evening representatives of the European Round Table of Industrialists met at the Federal Chancellery. The importance of digitalisation across all sectors of the economy was the main topic on the agenda.
"We know that what is at stake here is the jobs of the future. I think it is safe to say that our meetings have got things moving," said the Chancellor after the meeting.

In the evening the Chancellor was guest speaker at the state parliament in Düsseldorf, where the CDU group in the state parliament was celebrating its 70th anniversary.
