Changes in the Cabinet Christine Lambrecht to be new Minister of Justice

Christine Lambrecht is to be the new Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection. On 27 June she will be officially appointed by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at Schloss Bellevue, on the recommendation of the Chancellor.

On Thursday Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will present the current Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection, Katarina Barley, with her certificate of discharge. Parallel to this, Christine Lambrecht will receive her certificate of appointment, both on the recommendation of Chancellor Angela Merkel in line with Article 64(1) of the German Basic Law or constitution.

The Chancellor will attend both the ceremony at Schloss Bellevue and the swearing in of the new minister in the German Bundestag, announced deputy government spokesperson Martina Fietz.

Christine Lambrecht has been Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Ministry of Finance, Olaf Scholz, since March 2018. She has been a member of the German Bundestag since 1998. The current minister, Katarina Barley will be moving to the European Parliament.
