In April NATO will be celebrating its
sixtieth anniversary. Germany and France are jointly hosting the
celebrations. The NATO summit meeting on 3 and 4 April will be held
in Baden-Baden and Kehl on the German side of the border and in
Strasbourg on the French side. The Summit will focus on the 60th
anniversary. The 26 existing member states will be welcoming
Albania and Croatia as new members.
28 guest nations in Germany and France
The two-day Summit will begin on April 3rd in Baden-Baden
with a meeting of participants from the 28 member states. In line
with tradition, the summit will kick off with a cultural event in
the "Kurhaus", followed by a working dinner attended by the heads
of state and government, and the foreign and defence ministers.
This will give them their first opportunity to broach issues of
security policy.
On April 4th the programme will be continued in Strasbourg
and Kehl. The focus will be on the meeting of the North Atlantic
Council. The North Atlantic Council is NATO's key political
decision-making body.
Details of the programme are currently under discussion.
Once the programme has been finalised it will be published
here.
