Near Rostock, 5 June 2023: On Monday, the Federal Chancellor visited the German Navy to get an impression of the armed forces’ skills. He watched a manoeuvre with involvement of an international federation in the Baltic Sea.
Berlin, 06 June 2023: In the TV show WDR Europaforum on Tuesday, the Federal Chancellor condemned the attack on the Kakhovka dam in Ukraine. He pointed out that this added “a new dimension” but was in line with “the way in which Putin is conducting this war”. Further topics discussed included the eastward enlargement of the EU, defence, migration and climate policy.
In a special edition of the TV programme RTL Direkt, citizens were able to ask the Federal Chancellor questions and to speak about their fears and concerns.
In the evening, Scholz welcomed the French President Emmanuel Macron at his place of residence in Potsdam. They went for a short walk across the state capital of Brandenburg together.
The visit was rounded off with a working dinner. In early July, Macron is coming to Germany on a state visit – the first one in 23 years.
Berlin, 07 June 2023: On Wednesday the Federal Cabinet adopted the “Federal Energy Research Report 2023”. The report indicates that the Federal Government spent 1.49 billion euros on researching innovative energy technology in the past year.
Rome, 08 June 2023: On Thursday the Federal Chancellor went to Italy for his inaugural visit. The meeting with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was followed by a function with President Sergio Mattarella.
Berlin, 09 June 2023: On Friday, Federal Chancellor Scholz welcomed Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in the Chancellery. During the meeting, Scholz stressed that Germany would continue to support Georgia on its path towards EU membership, and he encouraged Garibashvili to take the required reform steps.
The war in Ukraine was also discussed when the Federal Chancellor attended the Protestant Church Congress in Nuremberg on Saturday. “Borders must not be moved by force,” Scholz said. He added that it was only possible to negotiate just peace in Ukraine if Russia withdrew its troops.
Later that day, he watched a demonstration of operating equipment of the German air rescue service DRF Luftrettung at Nuremberg Airport. “We can always rely on the women and men of DRF Luftrettung who are available to help night and day,” the Federal Chancellor said.
