Schloss Gymnich in Erftstadt near Bonn still lends its name to the informal meeting of EU ministers of foreign affairs that has taken place every six months since the first meeting at Schloss Gymnich. The 14th century palace was for many centuries owned by the Gynmich family, which belonged to the Rhineland nobility. For many years it was used as the German government guest house.
