G20 Initiative "Compact with Africa"

Berlin, 30 October 2018: Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Investment Summit of the G20 Initiative "Compact with Africa".

The Initiative aims to achieve an equal and lasting partnership that benefits all sides.

These partnerships are to improve the environment for private investment in order to get infrastructure projects off the ground and create jobs. No financial support on the part of the German government is planned.

Then Angela Merkel hosted the G20 "Compact with Africa" Conference at the Federal Chancellery.

Before the conference the Chancellor met with several leaders individually, including the new Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

As well as representatives of eleven African states, representatives of international organisations such as the International Monetary Fund attended the event at the Federal Chancellery.

The conference aimed to take the "Compact with Africa" process to the next level. Targeted development cooperation is to help improve conditions for investment in the Africa states.
