Aachen, 10.05.18: This year's Charlemagne Prize goes to French President Emmanuel Macron. Chancellor Angela Merkel welcomed him in the morning in front of the city's cathedral.
The ceremony began with a Pontifical Mass.
Emmanuel Macron was accompanied by his wife Brigitte.
Chancellor Angela Merkel delivered the laudation at the award ceremony.
"Your enthusiasm, your dedication and your courage are infectious. This award is intended to strengthen you and should be an incentive to you to carry on along this path".
Congratulations for the prize-winner
The Charlemagne Prize has been awarded since 1950 in recognition of services rendered to Europe and European unification. Many former prize-winners attended.
