Press conference given by the Federal Chancellor at the EPC meeting “Europe stands together”

At the European Political Community Summit in the UK, Federal Chancellor Scholz emphasised Europe’s powerful solidarity. In addition to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the agenda included migration and sound, constructive collaboration among the countries of Europe.

At the fourth meeting of the European Political Community (EPC) at Blenheim Palace near Oxford, the main subjects of discussion were security and stability on the European continent, energy and connectivity, the defence of democracy, and migration. At the beginning of the meeting, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in a press statement: “This is a clear sign that we stand together as democracies – as states bound by a constitution – in support of the principles of security and cooperation. The most important points from the Federal Chancellor’s press conference:

  • Support for Ukraine: In order to provide ongoing support for Ukraine, the common goal is to contain the Russian shadow fleet. A global coalition is to be formed for this purpose.
  • Solidarity with Moldova: In response to Russia’s hybrid attacks on Moldova, the Federal Chancellor has pledged his solidarity and support in the fight for Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
  • Cooperation on the issue of migration: Migration partnerships are to be broadened so as to combat irregular migration and facilitate immigration via safe routes.
