Jörg Kukies is the new Federal Minister of Finance. He received his certificate of appointment from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Bellevue Palace today, before being sworn in at the German Bundestag.
Volker Wissing, Federal Minister of Digital Affairs and Transport, also received his certificate of appointment from the Federal President. He is taking over the job as Federal Minister of Justice, in addition to his existing duties.
Cem Özdemir, Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, is to head the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Yesterday, Federal Chancellor Scholz had asked the Federal President to relieve Finance Minister Christian Lindner of his duties, and he also announced that he will be calling a vote of confidence: “We need a functioning government that has the strength to make the decisions our country needs. I will continue to put all my energy into leading our country through this challenging time and I am confident that we can emerge from this crisis stronger than before if we take the right decisions.”
