The meeting is intended to reinforce the strong transatlantic bond that links Europe and America.

On the agenda of the NATO foreign minister meeting are defence spending and the issue of fairer burden sharing within the alliance. Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel will be in Brussels for the meeting.

Common fight against terrorism

The foreign ministers will be consulting on progress made in their joint fight against terrorism and on ongoing support for NATO partners, for Iraq for instance.

But they will also be discussing NATO’s relations with Russia. This will involve assessing Russian actions in Europe. Also attending this session are the Swedish and Finnish ministers of foreign affairs and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

NATO will continue to support Ukraine

The NATO-Ukraine Commission is also meeting. As well as the current security situation in Ukraine, the reform process in the country will be discussed. The session will look at how the alliance can support Ukraine.
