Przemyśl, 1 December 2024: On Sunday, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz set off by train to visit the Ukrainian capital.
Scholz boarded a special train at a station on the border in south-east Poland.
During the journey of over nine hours the Federal Chancellor spoke to journalists who were travelling with him.
Kyiv, 2 December 2024: On Monday morning the Federal Chancellor was met at Kyiv’s central station by Olexandr Mischenko, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
First the Federal Chancellor visited a hospital with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky and Scholz visited wounded soldiers.
In Kyiv, the two leaders also attended a display to learn about the latest developments in the drone sector.
The Federal Chancellor later received an official welcome with military honours from President Zelensky.
The President and the Federal Chancellor visited Independence Square, the national memorial to fallen soldiers.
Germany is Europe’s largest provider of military aid to Ukraine.
Scholz and Zelensky then met for one-to-one talks.
Afterwards, the two leaders met the press.
At the press conference the Federal Chancellor reaffirmed Germany’s solidarity with Ukraine.
