The last stop of the Federal Chancellor’s visit to China was Beijing, on Tuesday.
The Federal Chancellor was received by President of State of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.
Their discussions focussed on the current situation in Ukraine, as well as the situation in the Middle East. The Federal Chancellor condemned Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israeli territory in the strongest possible terms once again and said that a conflagration in the region had to be prevented.
Scholz and Xi also discussed the topics of climate change and business. “Only together can we succeed in finding solution approaches to stop climate change and to manage the green energy transition in a socially just way,” the Federal Chancellor said.
“China should and will remain a key business partner for Germany and all of Europe,” the Federal Chancellor stressed.
In the large People’s Hall, the Federal Chancellor was received by Li Qiang, Prime Minister of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, with military honours.
He therefore talked to Prime Minister Li Qiang about ensuring market access on an equal footing, the protection of intellectual property and the necessity to establish a reliable legal framework.
Germany and China agreed on an on-going discussion of the sustainable use of valuable waste components. To this end, they have signed a five-year action plan in Beijing for a German-Chinese dialogue on the topics of circular economy and resource efficiency.
Germany and China are key players in global environmental protection.
