Later, the Federal Chancellor was invited to join a session of the cabinet of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The discussions focused on issues of energy security and supply.

“This is a year of decisions so we can ensure that Germany’s demand for fossil energy imports is ended as soon as possible, and also so that we can focus on renewables,” the Federal Chancellor said.

Schönefeld, 22 June 2022: At the opening of the International Aerospace Exhibition on Wednesday, the Federal Chancellor posed a question about the future of air travel: “How can we convert our economic model, which has been based on burning coal, oil and natural gas for almost 200 years, so that we can secure the future of our planet?”

At the opening ceremony, Scholz said that the ILA’s display of developments and prototypes made him “excited about the future of flying: climate-neutral, low-noise and highly innovative.”

Later, Scholz outlined the Federal Government's objectives for the upcoming summit meetings: the European Council in Brussels will be followed by the meeting of the heads of state and government of the G7 at Schloss Elmau as well as the NATO Summit in Madrid.

The heads of state and government of the six states of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Kosovo held discussions with their European counterparts.

The Western Balkans Summit was followed by the meeting of the European Council. The talks were mainly concerned with Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the impact of the war.
