Continuing work on the German National Sustainable Development Strategy is closely linked to the work of the United Nations on sustainable development goals within the scope of what is termed the post-2015 development agenda.

On the initiative of Federal Development Minister Gerd Müller, a Charter for the Future is to be elaborated by November, under the banner "ONE WORLD – Our Responsibility". The minister is discussing priority fields of action of sustainable development policy around the globe with a broad section of public opinion.

Numerous special events are planned at federal, state and municipal levels. And citizens can make their own contributions online at www.zukunftscharta.de. In November the German government will present the first results.

The Charter for the Future is to be the output of the joint efforts of civil society, the scientific and research community, the churches and the business community. It will thus provide a basis for action for 2015, the European Year for Development, when important decisions must be made for the direction of worldwide sustainable development. In 2015, for instance, a climate agreement will be negotiated; within the scope of the post-2015 development agenda, the Millennium Development Goals are to be further developed as sustainable development goals; 2015 is the European Year for Development, and Germany will assume the G7 Presidency.

The State Secretaries’ Committee is the body responsible for steering the National Sustainable Development Strategy. All federal ministries are represented within the committee at state secretary level.
