Chancellor receives Dutch Prime Minister
During the visit of Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, the Chancellor pointed to the close economic cooperation between the two countries. Looking ahead to the government consultations scheduled for October, she reported that Germany and the Netherlands intend to cooperate closely on climate action.

There is a lot of common ground on economic and trade issues, said Chancellor Angela Merkel following her meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. The two countries have very close economic ties. They also agree on international trade relations, and are concerned about increasing protectionist trends.
Cooperation on climate action
Another item on the agenda was climate change mitigation – an issue "that concerns us all greatly", said Angela Merkel. In October, Germany and the Netherlands are to hold government consultations. The two nations will be looking at how the climate targets for 2030 can be achieved and how to attain climate neutrality by 2050.
Angela Merkel and Mark Rutte also discussed next week’s European elections. In the Netherlands, voters go to the polls on 23 May, while the elections will be held in Germany on 26 May.
