The Chancellor's Week

A week leading up to festivities in Berlin for the fiftieth anniversary of the Treaties of Rome focused on talks with European partners. Chancellor Merkel’s first stop was Poland, where she delivered a highly acclaimed speech at Warsaw University before accompanying President Lech Kaczy?ski to his summer residence.

After returning to Germany for a meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, the Chancellor left for Rome, the ‘birthplace’ of Europe, where she had an opportunity to view the original Rome Treaties.
