Peter Altmaier is Federal Environment Minister. From October 2009 until his appointment as minister in May 2012 he was First Parliamentary Secretary of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag. He came to German politics from Brussels, where he worked for the European Commission as a civil servant.
