On 8 August the German Government agreed the possibility of increasing the German contingent to up to 20 soldiers. They will be responsible for providing medical care or will be deployed as military observers or as part of the international staff. One medical orderly had already been deployed immediately following the Cabinet decision.
The decision applies for an indefinite period and does not require the approval of the German Bundestag, since the mission is a non-military one. The mission mandate was last extended in April 2007, to 15 October 2007.
